US guides
Most US bench jewelers will set a certified loose diamond that you already own. They need the stone, the report, and a clear instruction for the mounting.
The jeweler uses the report to confirm carat, measurements, and that the diamond is the one you think it is. A laser inscription on the girdle should match the report number. Do not leave the certificate at home.
Princess and pear tips, emerald corners, and marquise points need heads that cover the thin edges. A US jeweler who only sees a round every day should still be told which shape you bought. Share the millimeter length and width from the certificate so the head is made for that stone, not for a stock size.
Carat Mate sells the certified stone. The local jeweler sells the setting and labor. Those are separate purchases, which is why the diamond price you compared online is not a finished-ring price.
