CVD and HPHT are two ways to grow a real diamond in a lab. Neither method replaces the 4Cs — or a good look at the stone.
HPHT (high pressure, high temperature) grows diamond under extreme pressure and heat. CVD (chemical vapor deposition) grows diamond from carbon-rich gas in layers.
Both produce diamond: the same crystal structure buyers mean when they say the stone is “real.” Origin is laboratory-grown; beauty still comes from cut, color, clarity, and carat.

IGI lab-grown reports commonly state CVD or HPHT and may note post-growth treatment. Read the comments — “as grown” language and treatment notes matter more than which acronym sounds nicer.
A treated CVD stone is not automatically a bad buy; undisclosed treatment would be. Transparency is the standard.

Filter lab-grown type on Carat Mate when you care about method, then sort by cut, color, clarity, and price as usual. Prefer Excellent cut rounds and clean face-up media.
Do not pay a premium for a growth method alone. Pay for the stone you can see and verify.
